Our Mission
The mission of the Harvard OpenBio Laboratory is to foster a collaborative community at Harvard centered around biology that moves the world forward.
We aim to change the paradigm of biological research by making the resources and funding to do impactful research accessible to all. OpenBio provides the space, resources, funding, and advising to help students turn their research visions into reality. Through this community, we hope to enable meaningful research and change the culture of undergraduate biology at Harvard and beyond.
We support student-led projects that have the potential to make a lasting impact on the world using biology. Additionally, we are committed to increasing access to scientific education and opportunities for underrepresented groups, as diversity is essential for progress and innovation. We are excited to work towards this mission and use biology to create a brighter future for all.
What We Do
We support student-led research projects through our fellowship program, enabling undergraduates to pursue independent research. We also teach wet lab skills workshops, host career panels, and are planning to host a multi-day BioHackathon.

Current Projects
We support projects that use biology to create useful experiments, products, or technologies that address the world's problems or advance our appreciation for biology. At the beginning of each semester, students can submit proposals to join our cohort, which will be reviewed by the OpenBio executive board and our faculty advisors.
